Just when America needs it most, it is getting a fracking break. New extraction technologies, such as horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing, otherwise known as fracking,
have opened up the potential to tap vast reserves of oil and natural gas buried deep underground.
How big is this fracking revolution? In 2012, the International Energy Agency predicted that the U.S. would become the world’s leading natural gas producer by 2015. And it’s well on its way. The IEA thinks that also considering oil, the U.S. will become energy independent by 2030.
