It's a first for a brand-new market! BP needed a better way to monitor oil pipelines over the remote, thinly populated North Slope in Alaska. The solution? Unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as drones. This week, the Federal Aviation Administration approved BP's request to operate a drone system, making this the first-ever approval for overland use of commercial drones.
